Make the World Write says a lot about how I approach writing – and the world in general!

I pride myself on being a reader advocate. My best assets are making complex material accessible to the general public. I have helped Intuit customers untwist the tax code, uncovered the mysteries of dental implants, and have transformed overwritten and directionless text into crisp prose.

My editing career began in “the pit,” a basement study area in my sorority house. I was frequently called upon to edit term papers and reports – usually in the middle of the night – always at the last minute with a teary- and bleary-eyed sorority sister. I was part editor and part therapist! And still am.

After graduating with a B.A. in English from UCLA, I began my writing career as a technical writer for Xerox Corporation, where I wrote user manuals about printers and computers. My group won an award for establishing a process for receiving user feedback in order to improve our documentation.

It’s important to define your audience. When I write or edit a document, I put myself into the role of the reader. I’m constantly asking: “Why is this important?” “What’s in it for me?” As I work, your core message becomes sharper and relevant. Let me tailor your information for YOUR audience.”

At Xerox, I honed my editing skills so that when I left, my attention turned to editing and writing. I have been a freelance writer and editor for almost 15 years, and writing professionally for over 25.

I love to write. I write all the time: I have written about and edited materials for a variety of topics, including community and arts news, the pharmaceutical and biotechnical industries, dental technology, computers, printers — even dinosaurs and spiders. I enjoy writing about community issues, and have written freelance articles for the San Diego Natural History Museum, and articles for The Beacon, a local newspaper serving Ocean Beach and Point Loma. I also served as the staff editor for Intuit, Corp.

Of course my first priority is being the best mom I can to my now teenage daughter, and doing whatever it takes to ensure that her life is enriched.

You may have noticed the word “community” more than once. That’s because I believe in making our community a better place – through service and volunteerism (making the World Right, too). I am the PR chair for the Point Loma Concerts Series and Point Loma Association Annual Dinner, help beautify the neighborhood by painting utility boxes, serve as the Neighborhood Watch co-chair (where we fight crime and, you guess it, beautify medians!), led a Girl Scout Troop for nine years, sing in two choirs, and am an enthusiastic Band Booster.

Our home is in Point Loma, San Diego. I enjoy a good book, riding on our tandem bicycle with my husband, cooking, traveling, exercise classes, entertaining, and hanging out with my family. On my most recent travels, I kissed a baby gray whale!

A spell check does not a writer make. With all the wonderful publishing tools available today, many people are publishing on their own. Unfortunately, it shows! The written word reflects your professionalism and attention to detail. Let me help you look good. Because it does matter.”
