Levels of Editing
From scratch – Developmental editing
I work with you from the beginning to shape a manuscript (article, newsletter, etc.) from your rough draft, outline — or ideas floating around your head.
From what you’ve started – “Big Picture” editing
This level of editing is appropriate when you have completed a manuscript. It’s called “big picture” editing because I’m looking at everything – format, organization, style, tone, clarity – all the pieces that make ordinary writing extraordinary. This is where I’m asking myself, “Does this make sense?” “Why is this important for me to know?” As I work, your core message becomes sharper and relevant to your audience.
Line-by-line Copyediting
This can be a light to heavy edit, depending on the quality and complexity of the manuscript. Copy editing includes: corrections to spelling, punctuation, grammar and usage; consistency checking; word-tightening; fact checking; ensuring consistent tense; organization assessment; deleting and/or adding passages.
Proofreading
This is a basic edit for typos, spelling errors, tense, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.
